AGI Already Exists

Just yelling my controversial take on AGI into the void that is the internet.

The marker for what constitutes AGI keeps changing as the tooling and computational scaffolding build around complex ML models and processes allows our understanding to resolve.

This is bullshit.

Right now today I can ask an AI for tips on caring for my new puppy, then ask it to interpret an image my toddler drew in crayon, then have it read an entire sci-fi/fantasy ebook and have it come up with ideas for whimsical shirts based on said book. I can have it assist with optimizing my workflow in my actual job, and then create a simple, easy-to-digest set of excercises for learning some random new topic.

Is that NOT general enough??

Artificial Sentience

What the current state of tech companies and media are coining as AGI is actually what I consider to be Artificial Sentience.

I believe the best way to achieve it is to abandon the idea of intelligence.

Sentient beings don't have to be smart.

Think about it. Most of us have interacted with a sentient being that we would consider to be an idiot. So...we start with sentience, autonomy, embodiment (because we really shouldn't be creating god-like intelligences that exist in perpetuity as distributed systems) - and then you raise it.

Yep.

I recognize that I'm biased because I'm a dad, but I think you start with a simple system and raise that shit like one of your own. [side note*] I find the idea of 'bias doping' to be fascinating - intentionally introducing certain types of bias in order to shape and guide how the sentience interprets the world around it.

IMHO this is the approach that's missing from the pursuit of Artificial Sentience.
